One Tree Planted
What gets our team up in the morning is the knowledge that we're producing products that can make a real and positive difference to people's health. We have already made some great inroads with Fullgreen's special production process that naturally extends the shelf life of vegetables, as well as our use of locally grown produce, ‘grade 2’ veg (too small to sell in supermarkets) and surplus produce that is usually discarded by vegetable producers.
All of these things help reduce food waste and fight climate change, but our work is far from done! As a business we’re constantly looking for new partners and initiatives that have a positive impact on society and the planet. So, this year we're taking our sustainability agenda a step further by partnering with One Tree Planted – an amazing non-profit organisation focused on global reforestation projects.
We all know how great veggies are for us, but on the flip side, short shelf life veg is one of the leading food waste culprits with 1/3 of all food produced heading to landfill where it creates and releases harmful methane gases that contribute to climate change (read our Sustainability article for some important stats on this)
Trees, on the other hand do so much for our world. They absorb carbon to clean the air, supply a habitat for 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity AND provide an income for 1.6 billion people. That’s before we even get to the foods and medicines they produce and the social, physical and mental benefits they provide!
Forests are really the lifeline of our world which makes it hard to comprehend the stats around deforestation. Shockingly, 46-58 thousand square miles of forest are destroyed every year (that’s 48 football fields every minute). This consistent burning, degrading and logging has a huge impact on our natural world, including a decline in biodiversity and increased greenhouse gas emissions.
It’s not a pretty picture but there is light at the end of the tunnel courtesy of amazing organisations with positive and proactive agendas, like One Tree Planted.
Fullgreen is committing to planting 200 trees a month for 2021 and beyond - a small but important step to help nurture our natural habitat and counteract the impact of deforestation around the world.
